The Bathers, 1882.

Etching on laid paper. Framed.

Signed in graphite on the bottom right, "S. Alonzo Schoff"; Blind stamped by William M. Hunt on the bottom left; Signature dating the original painting in the plate, "WMH 1877".

A signed etching of William M. Hunt's famous painting The Bathers, depicting two nude, young men wading along a riverbank. This etching from a large copper plate was made by Stephen A. Schoff, a close friend of Hunt's who created many plates of Hunt's works now held within the Schoff Collection at the National Museum of American History.

 

Sight: 22 15/16 x 15 3/8 in. (58.2 x 39 cm.)

Frame: 32 3/4 x 24 13/16 in. (83.2 x 63 cm.)

Condition

Graphite signature shows some loss in opacity consistent with age.
