Antinous.

A painting of Antinoüs, the male lover of the Roman emperor Hadrian, rendered on a Renaissance-style gesso panel. The artist, James Joseph Childs, was an exceptional gay American painter and draftsman known for his classical imagery and devotion to the male form. Childs took particular inspiration from the works of Lord Frederic Leighton. From 1996 onwards, he exhibited and worked as the first resident artist of the Leighton House Museum. Childs considered himself a modern artist working in the classical tradition, much like Lord Leighton. During his lifetime, Childs’ had exhibited in venues such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Leighton House Museum. His work is now held in prestigious collections around the world, such as the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, the Museo de Arte de Ponce, and the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
