A palatial Aubusson rug previously displayed in the ballroom at "The Elms" mansion of Newport, Rhode Island.

Purchased by The Preservation Society of Newport County, 1979, where it had been loaned by the previous owner Elinor Dorrance Ingersoll, an heiress to the Campbell Soup Co. fortune in 1974. 

She resided at "Bois Dore" in Newport and her Manhattan, New York apartment. This rug could have come from her New York apartment, or Bois Dore, which was built for Mr. and Mrs. William Fahnestock in 1927 by Charles A. Platt.
