The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Featuring two (2) posters alongside three (3) postcards. Largest poster: 22 1/2" x 17 1/2".

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence 1982 "Red Party poster" was scheduled on May Day (International Workers Day) as a jab at San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein's famous exclamation, "When I see the Sisters I just see red!" However, the theme and title of the fundraiser stirred controversy at the Russian Center which was associated with the "White Russians". As noted by the Sisters' website, "The woman managing the center was the daughter of the head general to the czar in the 1917 Bolshevik revolution. We learned that 'white' and 'red' are like oil and vinegar!"

This rare graphic is also historically important as it was "A Dance Benefit for the Gay Olympic Games," the organization was soon thereafter sued and forced to drop "Olympic" from its name becoming was it now the celebrated Gay Games.

Provenance: from the collection of and sold for the benefit of the San Francisco LGBT Community Center.
