Ink wash on paper laid down on board. Signed bottom center. Note: Monks did several etchings of Ram's including, "The Old Ram" in the 1880's. This painting is likely from this period and was a preparatory work for those etchings. 12 3/4 x 10 1/8 The paper is adhered to a larger irregular artist board, and the board appears original to the artwork. Provenance: From the collection of J.A.S. Monks (American painter, 1850 - 1917) and to the present consignor, his great-grandson.
Condition
Corner and edge loss and edge cracks. Minor surface soiling. This painting
has remained in the personal collection of JAS Monks and by his family and
