Eight (8) cabinet cards. Circa 1890s. One depicts a dog with a kitten (a difficult subject to photograph in this era). One photograph has a small pencil sketch on the verso which is believed to be by J.A.S Monks (American painter, 1850 - 1917). 8 1/2 x 5 inches (largest). Most of these cards are from Boston photography studios. Provenance: From the personal collection of J.A.S. Monks (American painter, 1850 - 1917) and to the present consignor, his great-grandson. These photographs have for the past century remained together with J.A.S. Monks' collection of artworks on paper. They were likely used for studies. The small drawing on the verso is similar to other drawings that Monks did at the time and can be found in the same collection.
