"Special Walnut cluster based Table." 1968-1969. 28.5 x 72 x 72". Including Nakashima's original drawing, plan, and notes signed and addressed to the client, Irvin Taylor, as well as the original purchase receipt. The basis for the "clustered base table" can be found in George Nakashima's 1966 studio catalog. Nakashima invoiced this table as "Special" and his notes reflect his interest in the boards he selected and how he prepared them for the final design. Provenance: Estate of Irving Taylor (Rhode Island).

Irving (Sandy) Taylor was a renowned regional architect. He was a graduate of Tabor Academy, before attending Brown University in 1951 and the Rhode Island School of Design in 1960. He was a champion of historic preservation, and his social circle was contemporary artists, craftspeople, and musicians. He is also a direct descendant of Charles Wilson Peale. His nickname, Sandy as he was known, was given to him by the artist Gordon Grant, who was his neighbor.

Condition

Every lot is sold "as is," "where is," and "without warranty," whether express or implied. Lighting and electronics have not been tested and should be professionally evaluated prior to use. Art has not been examined outside of the frame unless otherwise stated.

Our auction items are antique and vintage, often from estates, and are not in perfect condition. They often show normal signs of age, use, and wear, which might not be specified in a condition report. Bidders are responsible for determining the physical condition of items prior to bidding. The absence of a condition report does not indicate the absence of condition issues with the lot. Requests for condition reports, additional photographs, or a video inspection can be obtained via email at: info@Vallots.com (any condition statement given is offered as an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact).

All bids are final. We do not offer refunds based on item description, condition, or for any other reason.
