Attributed to the silversmith Richard Crossley of London. Marked with appropriate George III, lion passant, London assay office, and 1796 date marks, alongside the RC mark of the smith. A family crest device appears on the handle of the spoon. 12" in length. Approx. weight: 110 grams. Included alongside is a small sterling grapefruit spoon, Spaulding & Co., approx. 26 grams.
Provenance: William Shepard Wetmore (for the silver collection at Chateau-sur-Mer, Newport, Rhode Island); William Watts Sherman (for the silver collection at Sherman House, Newport, Rhode Island); Annie Derbie Rogers Wetmore Sherman (retained in the silver collection at Sherman House, Newport, Rhode Island); and thence by descent.
