A four (4) piece coin silver tea set including a teapot, double-handled sugar bowl, creamer, and sugar scuttle c.1820s. The teapot bears the mark of G. Forbes on the bottom indicating this was crafted by the son of the silversmith William Garret Forbes; all other pieces are unmarked. Approx. weight: 2197 grams.
Provenance: William Shepard Wetmore (for the silver collection at Chateau-sur-Mer, Newport, Rhode Island); William Watts Sherman (for the silver collection at Sherman House, Newport, Rhode Island); Annie Derbie Rogers Wetmore Sherman (retained in the silver collection at Sherman House, Newport, Rhode Island); and thence by descent.
One handle of the sugar bowl has snapped and is in need of repair.
