Charcoal studies. The figures appear Dutch. Signed (illegibly) in pen and dated 1851. Provenance: From the collection of J.A.S. Monks (American painter, 1850 - 1917) and to the present consignor, his great-grandson.
Note: The mounting paper is similar to other paper that J.A.S. Monks used and it is very likely that Monks mounted this drawing himself. The drawing itself pre-dates Monk and was likely an object of study for him. The signature is illegible and the artist remains unidentified.
Condition
Glued at four corners to mount. One area of distress or foxing near central figures right foot. A few scattered speck sized marks. The drawing remains in remarkably good original condition. (Please note, this is not a full condition report. Please email us at: info@Vallots.com for a detailed condition report or for additional photographs. Every lot is sold as-is.)
