"W. Douglas" was a popular illustrator for several gay publications in the 1980s and 1990s (his illustrations appear in Mandate Magazine, Playguy Magazine, and others). "W. Douglas" is likely an assumed name (a truncated name or anagram) used by an accomplished artist who was protecting his identity, given the potential for professional or personal controversy associated with these publications. There are several artists this talented illustrator is speculated to have been, but his true identity remains unknown.
