From the estate of the famous American art dealer Charles Cowles, this cibachrome photograph was taken by Ola Stillman Rockefeller, an heir to the famous Rockefeller family fortune. An avid art collector and photographer, Rockefeller made headlines in 1990 when he began modeling for men’s underwear advertisements, intending to use the exposure to further his own photography career.

Rockefeller was a close friend of the American art dealer Charles Cowles, and helped to contribute to Cowles’ lesser known collection of male form photography. As per the records of the New York Public Library, the two of them were often seen in the social circles of artists like David Hockney and Christopher Makos. This particular photograph is accompanied by a hand-written letter from Rockefeller to Cowles.
