Ephemera surrounding Mr. Norrie Sellars, noted cotton broker in the early 20th century, as mentioned in the book "Berengaria Exchange" by Paul Knapp (1972) detailing a "lively account of a floating stock exchange during the fateful week of the 1929 crash."

Items include: a framed letter from the British Embassy signed; an antique photograph circa 1928 featuring Mr. Sellars among other notable figures of the 1920s; a birthday invitation and menu from Mr. Daniel Schnakenberg inviting Mr. Sellars; an invitation with hand painted details and calligraphy along with a menu; two signed caricatures on prints, one with the original graphite drawing signed on the left from on-board the famed and fateful voyage of the RMS Berengaria (Cunard Line).

The Barengaria voyage occurred during the 1929 crash and many of the wealthy passengers embarked as millionaires but along the way became paupers, save a few who had access to the ship's novel brokerage trading room.

The RMS Berengaria was intended as a rival to Britain’s Olympic, Titanic, Lusitania, and Mauretania; she was then the largest ship in the world.

Condition

Every lot is sold "as is," "where is," and "without warranty," whether express or implied. Lighting and electronics have not been tested and should be professionally evaluated prior to use. Art has not been examined outside of the frame unless otherwise stated.

Our auction items are antique and vintage, often from estates, and are not in perfect condition. They often show normal signs of age, use, and wear, which might not be specified in a condition report. Bidders are responsible for determining the physical condition of items prior to bidding. The absence of a condition report does not indicate the absence of condition issues with the lot. Requests for condition reports, additional photographs, or a video inspection can be obtained via email at: info@Vallots.com (any condition statement given is offered as an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact).

All bids are final. We do not offer refunds based on item description, condition, or for any other reason.
