A depiction of the figurehead of a sailing vessel at night.
1975.
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated on the lower right.
An early and exceptionally scarce marine work of John Mecray, made just before moving to Newport, Rhode Island where he opened a studio at 166 Thames St. the following year to focus on marine painting.
The painting bridges the artist's earlier work as an accomplished and well published illustrator and then his subsequent work as a famed marine artist.
16 x 22 x 1".
Nothing adverse to note.
