Impressionist River and Landscape.' Watercolor. 9 x 12 inches. Dedicated: "To my friend Hunter," and signed bottom right. Note: Monks was friends with numerous artists and was the only student of George Inness; the identity of "Hunter" remains unknown by the family, and why this painting was dedicated but remained in Monks' personal collection is a mystery.
An unusual example of American Impressionism in the artist's oevre and bearing a resembalance to Inness's mystical painting: "A Pond on Milton on the Hudson.". Provenance: From the collection of J.A.S. Monks (American painter, 1850 - 1917) and to the present consignor, his great-grandson.

All lots won must be picked-up five (5) business days after the auction 11am - 3pm. Alternatively, providing arrangements have been made by the bidder with a shipper, we will hold the lot for the shipper for a reasonable period of time. In no event shall any item be stored for longer than sixty (60) days and after which the item shall be deemed abandoned and disposed of by us without compensation to the winning bidder.
