Arriving in New York City during the height of the AIDS epidemic, Bill Costa’s photography was chiefly concerned with capturing the beauty of men within desolate surroundings. Many of his photographs were inspired by Jean Genet, an author known for capturing both sensuality and brutality within his novels.
