1950. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated on the center left. 30 x 25".

A rare pre-Stonewall era homoerotically suggestive painting. The figure(s) appear to be wearing a jockstrap as opposed to an art studio posing strap.
Waterman attended the Portland School of Fine Art (now the Maine College of Art & Design), served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWII, and later became an art educator in the city at his own private atelier.

Provenance: property of a private Southern Maine collection.

Condition
