A-House (Atlantic House) Provincetown. A collection of 20 summer party posters, mostly on card stock, advertising parties at the A-House in the early to mid-1990s.

The A-House (Atlantic House) was built in 1798. It was a tavern that catered to the whaling industry and a stagecoach stop before becoming a discreet gay bar until the 1950s, when philanthropist and art collector Reginald Warren Cabral began to run the A-House as an openly gay establishment. Cabral kept the nautical theme, including whale bones and harpoons, but also incorporated his contemporary art collection (e.g., Warhol and Haring) into the mix. Some of the graphics in this collection incorporate Andy Warhol imagery (Cabral was a Warhol collector), several were designed by the late artist Steph Gorkii (American, 1972-2018), and several are signed and inscribed by Gorkii. Some appear to be designed by other unidentified artists and designers.

It is unknown how many of these posters were created, but considering that they were used to promote summer parties, it is likely that few were made and even fewer were not used and saved.

Provenance: property of a Provincetown, MA estate.
