An 1832 needlework sampler created by a one Rachel Johnherwork, including a naturalist motif, a passage from Alexander Pope's 'Universal Prayer,' and a full alphabet. 16 x 16" (sight); 21 1/2 x 22" (overall). Framed.
Provenance: a prominent New York private collection.
Cloth ground appears muted and toned as do the colors in the piece. Small holes evident along the bottom of the piece. Sampler has not been removed from the frame for inspection.
